Week 16, 04/27/2010

Well it is now officially been 4 months. I started this diet at 378lbs. About a year ago I was 400lbs. A year ago I was not dieting or cardio, I just would lift heavy weights. Let me tell you how uncomfortable it is to be that big. Things that normal sized people probably don’t think about like shopping for clothes, driving in a Japanese car, bathrooms, even sleeping. Well now I am about to turn 29 years old on May 4th which is in a week. I didn’t do as well as I wanted but I still feel so much better. I have now officially lost 57lbs in 4 months. The guy that told me about this diet said he lost 60lbs in 4 months and he was like 60 years old. Well guess what I almost did exactly as good as he did. I am 321lbs. I have gone from a 54 inch waist to about a 46. My wife took out a bunch of my old pants and there was a whole bunch of 46’s. I also have a bunch of 38’s that I don’t think my wife has ever seen me in. lol.

I have tried a few different thing to see if I could find a better way to eat/workout. Well from my experiences I have found that doing cardio with a weight lifting routine works the best. I didn’t notice a difference with just cardio. Also I tried adjusting my diet to 3 cookies and 3 small snacks. Nothing worked as good as when I stuck with the cookie diet only and a 700 calorie dinner. There is nothing better than weighing yourself 2-3 times a week and seeing it move down every time. All I can say is that if you are struggling with sticking to a diet, that you are doing yourself no good if you try and cheat. The sooner you can get yourself to a good weight, the sooner you can stop dieting and making sure you don’t go crazy. Stick with it. It is not going to happen overnight. I went and bought clothes from a normal store this weekend. Guess what? They fit and look great! I am so happy that I have done this for myself and my family.

You can also see it is difficult for me to stay motivated with blogging my thoughts. But I will try and let people know where I am at.

Week 10

Week 10, 03-16-2010

Change with James started 10 weeks ago… AMAZING. I think this is now officially the longest diet I have been able to stick too. Also this is the most weight I have ever lost. Of course I weighed a lot more than any other time I tried dieting before. I am really starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel though. I am currently as of this morning down to 333lbs. Let me get my calculator out for this one…. 378 – 333 = 45… 45LBS!!!! I go to the gym and know that 45lbs is the largest plate there, I carry them to the bench every Monday.

I ended up going and buying more cookies too. They taste so much better than the first batch. I am pretty sure it isn’t just me. But we decided that the cookies are they way to go for controlling my hunger and how much I eat. I tried doing the whole lunch thing with 2 snacks and it was ok. Now I am doing 3 cookies with 3 snacks and that seems to be perfect for my daily urges. I am so excited to buy more clothes from normal stores. Right now my pants wad up on the side. I have drilled out 3 holes for my belts. I originally would wear 52-54 inch pants. I grabbed my old 48’s and they fit great.

I have kept the same workout routine and I know it is key to any diet. For all of those people out there wanting to make the change to a healthy life. All I can tell you is, don’t give up, and just push harder.

Week 8

Week 8 03-02-2010

Well it has been a while and the only reason is that I didn’t have to much talk about. My body plateau’s and then all the sudden drops. Well as of this morning I am currently 337lbs! Since starting the diet I have lost 41lbs in 8 weeks. I continue to work out at least 3 times a week and watch what I eat. Well…. actually I have been a little bad. I have been having ice cream occasionally. I have been making sure that I don’t lose total control and eating a half gallon to myself or anything. My wife and I would split a small Sonic Reese’s Blast. Well it gets split 3 ways with our little girl.

Lunches, I have been having 2 little 100 calorie snacks and a low calorie lunch. I have notices that the Cookie Diet does manage your hunger better and my wife and I have decided that it would be a good idea to buy more of them and then alternate every now and then. That will also stretch out the cookies to reduce the cost and also I don’t get grossed out by eating the same thing everyday. Again, so that you know my goal is to be down below 300lbs by my birthday in May. I don’t have complete control on how fast my body will do that. However I am confident that I can do it. If I can average 20lbs a month loss then it would be perfect.

41lbs is a total difference. My clothes don’t fit anymore. I had to buy another belt because the ones I had before I kept drilling holes to fit but now the belt goes all the way around me. I think that the next time I post I will measure my waist just to see how many inches have been lost around the mid section.

Fun stat: My BMI according to one of these website calculators was 48.5 when I started 8 weeks ago. 6’2”at 378lbs with a 52 inch waist. Now 337lbs (at the same height) I am down to 43.3BMI. Pretty cool!

WEEK 5! 02-09-2010

So you might have thought that I gave up. It’s true… that a lot of fat people give up. Diets are hard and food is tempting. Well, I would like everyone to know that I have not quit. 2 weeks ago I started working out and I think my body needed a little bit to adjust to these new conditions. Well as of this morning I am officially 346lbs, totaling 32lbs lost. I am very motivated to make this the last time that I have to diet to loose weight.

One thing that I know is that if your not eating healthy AND not working out, you can only expect one outcome… to be fat or out of shape. Well, if you are there then you have to make your body go backward from where you are currently at. The quickest and best way to do that is to watch what you’re putting in your mouth (and I don’t mean bite by bite). Eat better and exercise. The last 2 weeks I have been slowly getting ramped up to where I am at with both cardio and weight lifting. The weight lift is light and brief but my cardio has been where I have lost the most weight. 30-45 minutes a day is all I have been able to do and I believe that if you never stop or rest in that 30 minute workout it will be more than enough. So my work out looks a little like this… Monday I do 15 minutes on the Elliptical and then go to do my weight lifting. I used to be into power lifting so I have not been pushing myself for the strength but rather to tone. But I do chest and Biceps. You can do whatever you want. Tuesday 15 minutes on the Elliptical and then I work my back and shoulders. Wednesday 15 minutes on the Elliptical and do legs. Thursday and Friday I focus strictly on cardio. 30 minutes on that Elliptical will get you those results.

Another thing that I have done is that I am slowly getting away from the cookie thing. The diet is good but I don’t think it is the key to my success. It did however give me the strength to eat properly. You shouldn’t be eating whatever you want when you’re hungry. You need to watch the calorie intake and limit yourself to how much you put in at a time. Just your heart pumping burns calories. You need to focus on eating throughout the day in little meals. Actually not meals, but snacks. I have been doing little snacks with the cookies (like Special K bars). Whatever snacks you can find under 100 calories are probably ok. The cookies do however fill you up a little better. But you know you will be craving something different and the cookies are really expensive. I love also that you don’t have to prepare any food for the day.

One last thing to mention…. I don’t need Exlax anymore. It’s gross but you should know that the plumming is working better/normal.

01/26/2010 week 3

So basically I have plateaued. I am bouncing between 357-355lbs. Not sure if my body is adjusting or if that is just how it goes. I am starting to work out today and see if that will jump this weight loss into gear again. Also I have been thinking about whether there is anything special about these cookies or if it is just a way to curve your appetite without indulging into something that is unhealthy. I was considering trying another diet to see if there is anything different. However sense it is the first month it would be an unfair comparison to any other diet. I think it would be easier to just do liposuction. Eat whatever then suck it out of my belly. Or just stop eating all together. All I know is that I want to get down to a weight that I can eat better food. I really enjoy my dinners and the cookies aren’t bad. However, I crave things like pizza. And making a healthy pizza is not how I would like to get over it.

Then I work at a place that you can eat at your desk and I get to smell everyone’s delicious food everyday. But I have not slipped yet. I have a goal and I will hit it. My wife has been very supportive and has helped me stay strong to it. She eats what I eat for dinners and reminds me of my goals when my mind starts too slipped into it evil thought processes (ice-cream, toast and BUTTER). It would be easier to just live in Africa they know something about staying skinny. Well anyways, you should know that I am doing better then I write. I am not going as crazy as I like everyone to think. Well… sometimes I will go crazy but then I get myself refocused and then I go to bed it is another day.

2 WEEKS!

Day 14 01/19/2010

So this weekend was a holiday so I was not at work. Things went great over the weekend. Last weekend I decided that there is no point in dieting Monday thru Friday and blowing all that hard work in 2 days. So I kept with that even thru the holiday weekend. Well I guess I cheated a little. I had an ice cream sandwich Sunday night after dinner. It was only 180 calories. I ended up getting some Ex lax to help me out too. My body is trying to hold on to the food as long as possible to try and absorb everything out of it. I probably need to drink more water. My wife also found a smoothie that is pretty dang tasty. Yoplait or something. It is about the same amount of calories as one of the cookies so I thought it would be fine to have one. I have found that I am not hungry anymore. I only eat when I am hungry and that is how I always have been.

Well this morning has marked my 2 weeks on this diet. I have not worked out at all and am questioning on even attempting too. I have now officially lost 22lbs in 2 weeks, my weight is 356lbs. I am pretty dang excited for this and can’t wait to be under 300lbs again. My wife has wanted me to take a more updated family picture and I keep avoiding this conversation just because I hate looking at myself. So I told her that she needs to give me until my Birthday this May and then we will do it. May is a pretty big month for us Anniversary and close to our little girls 2 year birthday. Also it gives me some time to get the fat off me. Well folks that’s it for now.

Friday, January 15, 2010

Day 9 01/14/2010

Things are going fine. My wife made some homemade chili but this time we had chicken instead of beef. I didn’t notice a difference in taste. Also a piece of toast from my low calorie bread. We found some 0 calorie spray butter to go with the toast. It’s amazing how many things there are out there that you can substitute and is better for you. I have only been eating 4 cookies a day and am also starting to think that I need to start taking a stool softener.

Thursday, January 14, 2010

Day 8 01/13/2010

So I am no longer going to be weighing myself in the mornings now. I will start doing them once a week. I lost 15 pounds though in the first week so we will see what I get down to next week. I am hoping for another 15lbs but I doubt it. It is probably going top start coming off a little slower. That is one of the reasons I decided to space out the scale time to once a week instead of the once a day. I also might start just updating this blog with the dinners and if there are new things that come up that are blog worthy.

Dinner was tuna with low calorie bread, sandwiches.

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

DAY 7 01/12/2010:

So things I believe are starting to slow down now. It was nice though losing 3lbs a day. Today I weighed in at 363lbs which means I still am showing a loss of 1lb. This also means that I have lost 15 solid pounds. I think that I will stop weighing myself everyday now. I know I should lose weight every week but don’t want to discourage myself if there are a couple days that don’t show any progress.

6am
Having oatmeal.
So basically I am getting used to this diet and nothing really new to report. I eat the cookies when I get hungry and 6 are more than enough to last throughout the day.

Dinner:
My wife made some shredded chicken that was cooked with salsa in a crock-pot. She also purchased low card and calorie soft taco sized tortillas. Little sour cream and lettuce and we had a tasty dinner.

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

DAY 6 Monday 01/11/2010:

This morning I weighed in at 364lbs totaling 14lbs in 6 whole days of dieting. I am not hungry as much now and my body is adjusting to the new diet. Actually now that I am eating so little throughout the day having a big dinner, doesn’t make me feel too good and kind of hurts. I am thinking that I need to cut down just little bit more for dinners now. The only problem is that the food just tastes so good now. But if I drink more water with my dinner I know I can definitely get my dinners down to 500 calories. Which 500 is where they want me to be anyways. So I will see how it goes.

6:45am
Still have not eaten, probably should. I was thinking to myself this morning that I should probably try and force myself to eat these cookies every 2 hour whether I am hungry or not. I have always heard that your body’s metabolism slows down when you starve yourself because it thinks you are not going to eat again. But if you teach it to have food coming in every 2 hours it will speed up and help you lose more weight. Speaking of slowing down and not to make it gross, my daily study time in the bathroom have become a little more few and far between. I was considering taking some pills to make it. Well that’s all I will say about that. But since I am trying to be detailed I thought it might be important to mention this.

9:00am
Banana: I am really not get hungry as much anymore. Also the pain of hunger isn’t bad anymore. My body is definitely getting used to feeling it. I received an email today from the lady who signed me up and she stated that women average 15lbs a month and guys 20lbs a month. So I am pretty motivated to see those results. My wife and I agreed that we need to make lower calorie dinners and then on the weekend I will stick to the diet but have a little more calories for the dinner then. Hopefully her statistics are true and if they are then I should have lost over 100lbs by my birthday in May. My fingers are crossed.

I tried to eat all my cookies but didn’t feel like eating them. My wife purchased some more Tuna Helpers, so we had one of those for dinner. They are definitely tasty.

Monday, January 11, 2010

Day 4 01/08/2010
This morning I weighed myself again and I am now down to 367lbs. So dieting 3 days has lost me 11lbs. This is getting me pretty excited to see result so fast. I might need to go to the tanning both to get rid of the farmers tan soon. Then I can rip off my shirt and whip it around like I just don’t care. Oops sorry I started day dreaming. But for real, one of my goals is that once I get down to 300 I would like to take my family to an amusement park. As it is right now I wouldn’t be able to enjoy most of the rides just because I can’t fit. It sucks.

6am
I had 1 oatmeal raisin felt fine after

8:10am
Getting hungry now so this banana cookie is going down.
Well Friday’s I go home early. I usually don’t touch a computer when I get home.
For dinner my wife went to her parent’s house for a pizza party. I stayed home with Grandma and decided that I would cook. My wife bought some low calorie bread, so I was able to have sandwiches. I made scrambled eggs sandwiches.

Saturday 01/09/2010:
I only ate 3 cookies and my wife also found zero calorie, ranch dressing at walmart (waldon Farms). She made her ranch breaded chicken breast and I cut them up and threw them on a salad.

Sunday 01/10/2010:
3 cookies again and this whole low calorie bread thing is pretty cool because it allow us more freedom to stay close to our normal dinners. We had BLT’s with over easy eggs. TASTY!

Friday, January 8, 2010

Day 3: 01/07/2010

6am
I decided to try and step on the scale again this morning. I am now currently 370lbs. So since Tuesday (only 2 days on the diet) I have lost 8lbs. I am starting to feel much better. In fact I am eating a chocolate cookie this morning and don’t really feel too hungry. Hopefully it is because my stomach is starting to change and not because I had all those calories for dinner.

8am
Had a banana.

10am
Oatmeal Rasin

12pm
Oatmeal Raisin again

2pm
Banana

3pm
Chocolate. I wasn’t that hungry but then we started talking about food. What can I say….

5:30pm
So my wife went grocery shopping, looking for ideas that would work for this diet. She brought home Tuna Helper, there are 5 servings per box and after the tuna is added it equals 5 cups of food. So I had 3 cups of food and that kept me in the limit of calories that I have been focusing on. It was delicious and filling. Food is definitely taking on some new respect. I am dieting and I couldn’t even imagine what it would be like to have to go without because we didn’t have anything. I think most of us in America take food for granted, I know I have.

I can remember not to long ago having my wife ask me what I would like for breakfast, lunch or dinner. My response usually was “I don’t care whatever you want”. Well, that was mostly because nothing even sounded good. Now… no joke. EVERYTHING sounds good. I have the same response but it is just because I want anything. It almost seems like a waste of time to talk about what we want. All I want is to eat. So when it was time to eat I decided that I would not let my dog like attributes take over. I forced myself to take a bite or two and then set the fork down and enjoy the dinner. My last few bites were getting cold but I enjoyed every bite and was full.

Thursday, January 7, 2010

DAY 2: 01/06/2010
Last night’s dinner was about 800 calories. I tried weighing myself last night and didn’t see any change in weight so I just thought it was too soon. But then this morning after doing my morning duties I weighed myself again (just for fun) and I was 372lbs (I did it 3 times). I thought I slept kind of light last night. No, but for real I am not too sure where that 6lbs went but I am glad they left. Maybe the Fat Fairy took some of them back. Well guess what Fat Fairy…. It is going to get much more crowded there. I have a lot more than 6lbs that got to go home. Well anyways I was excited that I saw some results already, I really was not counting on it. But… today is a new day and it’s time for another round.

6:00am
I am eating 2 Blue Berry cookies this morning (it tastes like breakfast) and enjoying a Diet Mountain Dew. I believe it is important to drink as much liquids as possible. Not only does it make you feel like you are full but flushes your body out. Yesterday I got up at least 2 more time to go to the bathroom which means I am getting more exercise. CRAZY!!!!!

8:20am
Going in the bag and I pulled…….. a chocolate! I am drinking a soda with this one.

10:10am
I was doing well until everyone started eating cake around me. So I am going to enjoy my water a little more right now. Not going to eat another cookie until 11am.

10:30am
Ok, I couldn’t make it to 11am so I am now eating a banana cookie. It is so good…. Mmmmmmm

1:15pm
Kind of hungry so decided to eat an oatmeal cookie and Dew. I was pretty tired today so I took a 10 minute power nap.

3:30pm
Chocolate is still not very good. But it is not so bad that I can’t eat it. So that ends my second day of the diet. Not to bad. I noticed that I have been watching the clock a lot though. But it seems to go pretty quick because you have little 2 hour goals. Hopefully the Fat Fairy takes more tonight.

Today’s dinner was 2 hamburgers (which is a half pound total) with no cheese and 2 small baked potatoes. My wife and I are having some trouble trying to find some food worthy of going into my mouth that is low in calories. This meal was about 850 calories. I figured that compared to what I was eating before that this is already a huge step in the right direction. However I would like to lose as much weight in as quick amount of time as possible. So I am going to try and be a little better.

Tuesday, January 5, 2010

Day 1

2 Blueberry, 2 Chocolate, 2 Bananas

I can already tell you that I actually like the Banana. It is not quite as good as my wife’s Banana bread but reminds me of it, so it’s a start. The texture is like a bread or cake brownie. Not too bad. I had 2 this morning. I was pretty hungry. But... not hungry now. 

6am: I had 2, 1 Banana and 1 Blueberry

8:30am: Started to get hungry so after looking over the time throughout the day decide that I could either have 1 every 2 hours or 2 for lunch and 2 snacks. I guess I will see how I feel. Not a big fan of the chocolate. It may take some time. I have also been taking 1 bite at a time, savoring it and waiting until my teeth are clean before taking another bite. Also I looked at the bottle of 5 hour energy and it is only 4 calories, no sugar and I didn’t see any carbohydrates which is the main things every diet hates.

So some beverage ideas:

Water is obviously going to have to be number 1. Diet soda is ok, but we all know that the carbonation is not good for us. Crystal light, 5 hour energy are some other good choices. It is probably best to stick with just water, though, if you can.

10:45am: Starting to feel the burn again. I am drinking water to try and make it to 11am before having anything. I have 3 cookies left and am going to have one at 11am, 1pm, and then 3pm. That should hold me until dinner tonight.

Well it is 11:40 now and I got busy at work, my banana cookie lasted 40 minutes! I took one bite and the hunger went away enough for me to focus on something else.

1:05: I wasn’t very hungry I guess it is because it took so long to finish the last cookie. I think I will have chocolate.

3:45: Not even hungry. I am very optimistic. Maybe there is something to this diet. Day 1 went very fast. I admit though… I am looking forward to eating some normal food. Hopefully my wife ate the rest of the pizza so I don’t have to think about it. Lol.

Oatmeal is all that is left. I will eat it at 4pm to make sure I have enough time to get home and eat dinner without dying of starvation.

Dinner about 5:30pm

We had broccoli and cheese chicken with baked potatoes.
Broccoli & Cheese Chicken
4-6 pieces of boneless skinless Chicken Breast - 110 cal. per 4oz
1 can of Campbell's broccoli & cheese soup - 70 cal per 1/2 cup
1/3 cup of 1% Milk - 102 cal per 8 fl oz
1/3 cup cheese (optional) - 110 cal per 1/3 cup
1/2-1 cup steamed broccoli - 45 cal per med stalk

Directions: boil the chicken for about 15-20min while that is cooking
mix milk and soup in a large skillet on medium-low heat once the chicken
is done add them to the sauce. Optional top with cheese and or steamed
Broccoli.
We served our dinner with 2 baked potatoes (110 cal each) and poured the
cheese sauce on it instead of using butter.

Change with James

Time for a change
A lot has happened in such a little amount of time. Years have just slipped by. I have been thinking about it for a while. Finally, I was camping with a friend who brought his uncle. I am not sure how old he is but he has a son that is my age (28) so I imagine he is about 60. He told me that he was able to lose 60lbs in 4 months. I asked him about it. He explained that he was on the cookie diet. I have heard of it before but never looked into it. NOW…. When a man who is about 60 talks about losing 60lbs in 4 months, you tend to listen. I have tried everything to lose weight and it seems that everything works but only to a point.

The biggest factor to any diet is exercise. If you exercise why do you need to diet? My opinion is that eating healthy is all you need to do. So making a change in your lifestyle is what you need to do. But then you run into the issue of who is going to cook and what are you going to cook? Working full time I don’t have time or energy to cook when I get home. If you can, more power to you. Then, there is what you’re going to take to work for breakfast and lunch. I HATE!!!!!! waking up, to find out you're running late and then going and looking for food to take to work. Guess what?! I can’t find anything but frozen burritos and frozen breakfasts. It’s my own fault, but let face it, the fatter I get the lazier I get. It’s a vicious cycle.

Now as I approach 29 years old and almost 400lbs what do I do? I have been married for 5 years to my beautiful wife and we have a daughter. They don’t have any issues with weight, so it makes it difficult for both sides to diet. I lost my Father 2 years ago; he was only 55 years old. He struggled with weight all his life and I remember when he was my weight but then rose over 500lbs. I believe his weight was the biggest factor in his death. He was unhealthy and cancer set inside him.

So 2010….

As of last night 01/04/2010 I weigh 378lbs. I am 6’2” tall 28 years old. I had my favorite dinner (pizza from Pizza Hut) last night to say goodbye to my old life.

Now 01/05/2010 I started the Dr. Seigals Cookie Diet. Yesterday I went down to the Chandler Mall in AZ and purchased a 4 week supply. It was $198.00, so this will now be the most money I have ever spent in an actual diet plan. However, if you think about it, you are going to eat. They give enough cookies to have 6 a day. I was told that I should eat one and if I still feel hungry to eat another one. Then just snack on them throughout the day. I got 4 different flavors: Banana, Blueberry, Oatmeal Raisin, and Chocolate. I went home and broke open the bags they came in and got my Ziplocs out. I put 2 of each flavor into their own bags. Then I grab an old grocery bags and mixed 3 flavors into each bag so that I can just grab it and go. Also guess what… I am able to continue drinking my favorite drink which is Diet Mountain Dew. So I didn’t have to give everything up. If you drink regular soda then stop. Diet Dew is the bomb-- you can do it.

So now I am able to go and sit down all day at my desk job and not worry about getting fatter. Hopefully…

I will try my best to keep this blog going to inform all of my progress and hopefully motivate others to join me in my pursuit to happiness and health.
